Silk Trade route went through Tunisia, deep into the Sahara Desert

"What most people don't know is that for a multiday trek, camels are sent a day or more in advance so you get more bang for your buck instead of riding through semi-arid shrubs, therefore a better experience for customers..."

This magnificent 15-day trek came out of an expedition I took with a nomad who had spent most of his life in this area - (2 years without seeing one person). Searching for a new trek, I was the first western person to trek on foot, the silk route 'trail', deep into the Sahara, navigated by stars and sun, all the way from Douz to the highest dune in the Tunisian Sahara (the expedition was over 300 kilometers). I fell in love with the area, and want to share part of this journey with others. Fall in love with the vast spaces, huge dome of blue sky, dunes over 200 meters, unbelievable star-lit nights, and most importantly, sharing the nomad way of life with our amazing Bedouin cameleers, who have an intrinsic sense about the Sahara. Join us on this once-in-a-lifetime journey deep into the untouristed, raw and real Sahara Desert. You will spend 5 days in the area where caravans travelled during the time of the silk route trade, as well as rocky mountains with incredible views. But I wont give away all the surprises!!!

Guided by the Bedouin Cameleers who are talented cooks, wonderful musicians, gentle souls and with extensive experience and knowledge of the desert.

Our first destination on this trek is Omi Hinda, an abandoned Bedouin village set in a small palm oasis, surrounded by beautiful white dunes.

Part of this journey will take us through Chott Hejria area; a vast and flat lunar-like landscape. Rising from this area are rock formations; large desert roses.

As we continue on our way, we will spend a night at Mount Lagouitsa (which means 'mountain drowning in the sand'). For those who like, we can climb to the top for the incredible view.

The route we will take is part of the old Caravan silk trade route, seldom traveled, little known and it is very unlikely we will meet other tourists here. This part of the trek will be around a week.

The landscape in this area is breathtaking, with high and pristine dunes, many over 200 meters high, honeycomb shaped 'bowls' of high dunes surrounding basins. At some point, we will climb to the top of Gored Bouchouicha to enjoy the awesome view from the top. This dune is one of the highest dunes in the Tunisian Sahara at 230 meters.

After Gored Bouchouicha, we will be leaving the Silk Route and traveling towards Hwidat Erriched (desert hot spring).

Soaking in the warm mineral spring is utter bliss after having traveled for 12 days in the Grand Erg. Although likely to meet other tourists here,  you will relish soaking in the healing warm mineral spring, surrounded by dunes as far as you can see.

On the last day we will arrive at Mount Timbaine for the opportunity to climb it and see the incredible viewpoint from the top. Our 4X4 transport will pick us up here and take you and your memories back to Douz.

Sahha!!! (Arabic for "we hope you enjoyed it")
