SAHARA BEDOUIN CAMP (Feb - May)
Join us at a traditional Bedouin Camp in the Tunisian Sahara!

The Tunisian Bedouins are semi-nomadic desert people of the Sahara. Up until the 1970's, many lived in the Sahara, moving across country borders according to the grazing conditions for their animals. Even though many now have homes in villages, most still spend much of the year living at tent camps, with their own leaders according to the tribal way of life.

Spending time at a Bedouin camp in the Sahara is like no other. Spend time in the desert with me, sleeping in a Bedouin tent - taking part in the traditional way of life at a Bedouin camp. Participate as you like, from caring for animals, milking goats, baking bread, cooking over a fire, gathering wood... Or just relax and enjoy as you get away into the desert, where sunsets are spectacular, and watching the falling stars under the grand arc of the desert sky is priceless.

Part of our Fair Trade practice is to provide work for Bedouin families. When you participate in this excursion the whole community benefits. Work is provided not only for the Bedouin cameleers, but also to the family who will host you, as well as financial compensation to the desert community which has so graciously opened it's doors and hearts to you.

Squawking chickens running  madly and freely through the camp, alongside laughing children. Goats and sheep bleat nearby, while the donkeys bray their displeasure at  being tied up. Nearby, a woman wearing worn but colorful fabrics tied with a steel pin as she sits by a fire, cooking a meal. Her neighbour, sitting in the entrance to her Bedouin tent is rhythmically shaking a goat skin holding goat milk - soon to be goat butter as she laughs and talks loudly with a friend. Two men are drinking tea by a fire, as a shepherd arrives to the camp with his sheep and goats.

This experience can be arranged for a couple of days to a week. If you like, combine this experience with a trek deeper into the Sahara.

Sahha!!! (Arabic for "we hope you enjoyed it")
